If one more coach comes to me and tells me that they work with "Women in their mid-40's to upper 50's who want to be empowered in their careers" or "New mothers who want to have empowered relationships with their kids..."
I WILL SCREAM.
Listen, if you want to be in business, you've just got to find out what your market wants, how they talk, and what they would do to get it.
NO ONE wants to be "empowered" - or at least, that's not how THEY talk about it.
Do they want to feel sexy at their high school reunion? Do they want their left eye to stop twitching every time they go into an important work meeting? Do they want to feel like they are on the path to an awesome career AND not shortchanging their kids by skipping school plays?
SKIPPING MARKET RESEARCH IS BUSINESS SUICIDE.
Coaches come to me craving CLARITY... and they're going about it backwards. They're trying to imagine themselves into clarity.
CLARITY comes from the OUTSIDE when it comes to building a business.
Without CLARITY, you'll be:
Market research is all about talking, asking, asking more, and being super curious and interested. Sound familiar? It should - you're a coach!
There are a ton of ways to accomplish this, which we cover in Blossoming Business (my 12-week accelerator program), but here's a rabbit hole to start with: Readdit.com. There are message boards for EVERYTHING, and people are super-candid about their needs in there. Read to your heart's content to get seriously clear on what's ACTUALLY going on for people.
